A Midsummer Wedding

Whilst we look forward to the mellow days of autumn and the plethora of wonderful things the new season brings, we can’t help reminisce on what was a truly magnificent summer - not least for the McQueens Wedding team who had the pleasure of creating some seriously stunning floral displays. Today we’re enjoying looking back on the country garden wedding of Paul and Cécile - who married at picturesque Barnsley House in Cirencester on a beautiful June day. We catch up with the lovely couple to find out about the inspiration behind the enchanting look...
Tell us about how you began planning your June wedding - did you both have a clear vision of what you wanted the day to be like?

We both love nature. The vision for our wedding was to celebrate outside, in a beautiful garden surrounded by trees, birds and loved ones. The mid-summers date we chose, also promised a late sunset and a near full moon, allowing us to spend most of our time outside (weather permitting) late into the evening.

You married at the stunning Barnsley House in the Cotswolds - how did you go about choosing the perfect venue?

As half the guests were coming from abroad, we were looking for a countryside venue that would be easy to access from both London and central airports. We especially wanted our international guests to have a beautiful experience of the English countryside. Barnsley House was the first venue we visited and even in winter the gardens were beautiful. The picturesque village of Barnsley also allowed us to accommodate all our guests within a short walk of the main venue and that meant everyone got to enjoy a relaxing weekend
Together with the McQueens wedding team you conceived some wonderful floral displays - are flowers important to you both?

I think we both just generally appreciate nature in all of its many forms. No matter where you are in the world, a well placed, tree or bunch of flowers can make all the difference.

Installations included decorating a tree - tell us about the inspiration and the flowers you choose?

Barnsley House already provides a special natural backdrop and come July we were even more overwhelmed by its gardens. There is an especially spectacular tree in the garden and we knew that is where we wanted to have the service. We wanted to connect the service with nature and McQueens brought that vision to life in a way that surpassed all expectation. The flowers were a mix of those we love, peonies, garden roses, dahlias and hydrangeas. It was a beautiful and magical scene.

We also wanted a similar experience indoors and a further large installation was made in the dining room, fitted with fairy lights and candles and this set a magical scene for dinner, first dance and everything that followed. The next morning , the installations came down and as everyone left they all got a beautiful bunch of flowers.
Can you share with us some of the details that made your day special?

We loved the entire weekend, having all those special friends right there for two days, and the flower installations made it a really immersive experience. We had a non-religious service including a hand fasting, with a wonderful Celibrant and to wrap things up, we have a very special and fun memory of everyone dancing in the garden under the moonlight.
